Space Weird Thing

In May 2015 Marian Call, Molly Lewis, Patrick Race, and Seth Boyer create a sweded version of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” video, rewriting the song using only the 1000 most common English words — in the style of Randall Munroe’s Up-Goer Five diagram.  Credits and more details on Youtube or at Alaskarobotics.com — and hey, this little homemade video made it to the official David Bowie website and the front page of xkcd.com!

Kickstarter!

Kickstarter-2015-skinny-headerMarian and her fans have reached a new milestone — her Kickstarter in August 2015 raised $67,035 to make it the fourth highest funding Kickstarter in the state of Alaska.

The funds are for Marian’s next studio album, Standing Stones, due to be released in 2016.  But fans also helped to fund the creation of new original songs, music videos, custom vinyl, an acoustic EP, and an EP of jazz standards and covers, all now in the pipeline.  For more information visit Marian’s Kickstarter page.

For details and concrete advice about crowdfunding in general, see Marian’s comprehensive blog “Kickstarter Math is Weird,” a good reference for any independent artist or group looking to raise money from their audience.
